Data Veda
Data Veda is created with of standardized, open, and interoperable directory of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) elements contextualized for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) and broader privacy frameworks.
In fragmented data ecosystem, organizations across sectors—such as finance, insurance, healthcare, e-commerce, and government—often interpret and handle personally identifiable information (PII) through different lenses based on their operational, regulatory, and risk perspectives. What qualifies as sensitive data for a bank may differ from what an insurer or regulator prioritizes. This inconsistency creates challenges in maintaining uniform privacy practices and compliance across systems. Data Veda addresses this foundational problem by serving as a common reference architecture that harmonizes the understanding, classification, and management of personal data across diverse domains—enabling consistency in privacy compliance, security implementation, and data governance.
Proposed directory contains structured information about each data element—including its definition, domain relevance, risk classification, security recommendations, sectoral regulations, and retention requirements. This enables data fiduciaries, processors, and consent managers to uniformly understand and handle personal data in accordance with the law.
To support operational readiness, Data Veda is pre-translated into the 22 official Indian languages specified in the DPDPA Schedule, enabling seamless integration into Consent Management Platforms (CMPs), privacy notices, and data rights interfaces. This linguistic inclusivity ensures accessibility, transparency, and regulatory compliance across diverse user bases.
By adopting Data Veda, organizations can:
Build standardized data lifecycle policies and deletion pipelines.
Achieve interoperability between consent, compliance, and security systems.
Simplify implementation of privacy-by-design frameworks.
Accelerate DPDPA compliance through a ready-to-use, reference-grade data catalogue.
Ultimately, Data Veda is more than a directory — it is a living knowledge base that evolves with India’s data ecosystem. It bridges the gap between policy and practice, empowering the entire data economy to embed privacy, security, and trust into the very fabric of digital systems.
